Advanced Driving

DRM Driver Training have various options for advanced training depending on your driving experience and how formal you wish the training to be.

• Refresher lessons – if you have not driven for a few years and want to refresh your skills before going back on the road.
• Motorway lessons – to learn the skills required for this different and fast moving type of road.
• Pass Plus – a modular course devised by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) for new drivers. Receive a certificate for improving your skill and knowledge of different road types and conditions.
• Advanced Driving – a formal qualification for anyone who wants to take their driving to the next level. Details of the training are below.

Over the years, DRM have helped many people to achieve success in improving their driving skills and to pass the DIA – Diamond Advanced Driving Test. The Diamond Advanced test is based on the Driving Standards Agency’s (DSA) Cardington system of marking and the test is considered a benchmark of driving excellence. You will be trained by one of our DSA approved tutors, who have all passed at least one advanced test themselves.

On the test you have an opportunity to demonstrate your skill over a route of 16 to 20 miles. The route will contain a variety of road and traffic conditions including, where possible, motorways. You will also be assessed on eco-safe driving and controlling the vehicle through set manoeuvres. The test is 1 hour in length and you are allowed up to 6 driving faults (no serious or dangerous).

The training consists of an assessment drive to see how good your driving is and advise you on the number of lessons you will require to be ready for the test. The training will take place on a variety of different roads, similar to those used in the test.

Once you have completed the training, you apply to the DIA for the test, who will arrange a date and time with one of their examiners.

Should you not want to sit a test, but still complete some advanced training we can provide that as above, without you going for the test at the end. You will still make improvements on your driving skills and take your driving to the next level.
